Vertical Balusters — Why It Matters

Unlike horizontal bar railings, vertical balusters cannot be climbed by small children. Some jurisdictions restrict horizontal elements in guardrails for exactly that reason, so if you have young children or a strict local code, vertical infill is the safer specification.
